An Interim Care Order (ICO) is a temporary court order in the UK that gives a local authority shared parental responsibility for a child, allowing them to provide immediate protection and care while in-depth investigations into the child's welfare are ongoing during care proceedings, often lasting up to 8 weeks initially and then renewed in shorter periods until a final decision is made about the child's long-term future.
